The Penguin Good
Australian Wine Guide 2007 You don’t see
Berrys Bridge wines everywhere, but make sure to try them when you
can. They are good examples of the intense Pyrenees regional-style
red wine.
| 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon |
Rating

| A dense young wine with a penetrating nose
of black fruit, seasoning spices, meaty notes, mint &
aromatic oak. In the mouth it has concentrated cabernet
fruit of depth & persistence. Firm tannins back things up
well. A solid cabernet that will undoubtedly benefit from
long ageing. |

| A dense, deep shiraz with powerful aromas of
boiled-down plums, spices and cedar. And while it doesn’t
have the excessive eucalypt of some big Pyrenees reds,
there’s a whisper of the gum tree about it. Overall the nose
is like a plush essence of super-ripe shiraz. The palate is
full-bodied and strongly flavoured with warmth & generosity;
a great wall of tannins supports the whole. |

| An intense varietal nose suggests plums,
spices, mushrooms & undergrowth, with a hint of cedary oak
in the background. The palate isn’t as big and concentrated
as the other Berrys Bridge wines but it has good intensity,
with medium body & fine-grained, sinewy tannins in support. |
