BERRYS
BRIDGE 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon barrel sample (88-91)
BERRYS BRIDGE 2001 Shiraz barrel sample (89-93)
"From the
outstanding, dry, warm 2001 vintage, these are the
finest efforts yet tasted from Berrys Bridge. The 2001
Cabernet possesses a pure texture in addition to
dazzling levels of blackcurrant fruit. While it has not
taken on much complexity, it is beautifully made and
pure. Aged in French oak, of which 20% was new, it will
be drinkable when released in January 2003, and will
drink well for a decade.
Aged in a combination
of French and American oak (25% new(), the 2001 Shiraz
easily conceals its 14.6% alcohol behind an explosion of
huckleberry and blackberry fruit, with hints of mint and
oak in the background. Layered, dense, chewy and
opulent, it should be an outstanding Shiraz...if it is
not excessively fined or filtered at bottling.
Anticipated maturity: now -2010.
