BERRYS BRIDGE 1999 Shiraz 93
"These are obviously top-notch
wines made from ripe fruit and what would appear to be
extremely low yields. The blockbuster 1999 Shiraz (14.7%
alcohol) has an opaque blue/purple color and an
extraordinary nose of blackberries, blueberries, and
toast. Full-bodied, ripe, and multi-layered with
exhilarating levels of glycerin, concentration, and
depth, this is a pure, full-bodied, surprisingly supple
wine to drink over the next 10-12 years.
Slightly more
structured but not as complex nor as concentrated is the
1999 Cabernet Sauvignon. It has an impressively
saturated black/purple color and a sweet nose of
blueberry and cassis fruit intermixed with licorice and
underbrush. The wine is dense, medium to full-bodied,
and pure, with the fruit holding the upper hand. A bit
more complexity and it too would have received an
outstanding evaluation. Drink it over the next decade."
